I dare say that barely anyone around today in the western sphere has succeeded to steer clear of detecting the school of Hogwarts and the magical universe of J.K. Rowling that is hiding under the name of Harry Potter. For me this has had a bit of a special meaning since I also live in areas where part of this invented life is supposed to take place. Being able to promenade around in London and even visit the Platform 9 and 3/4 that lamentably no longer exists where it should have been, there is a huge undertaking going on in London where they are remodeling and upgrading almost every tube and train station there is in this vast city.
Being fortunate enough to live so close to main train stations I also have the rest of the nation at my disposal and it does not take long at all to go to the other locations specified in the book or used in the film. The territories are indeed marvelous and appealing, somewhat improved digitally for the big silver screen to bring more of the darkness and character of Harry Potter to the crowd in that dark cinema. The book is frighteningly authentic in some areas and it is awe-inspiring given that the backdrop has in some places had almost ten years to change.
Living and working in London has given me more awareness into the way and life of the author and seeing what she was exposed to makes more of the book come alive, rather than as most think; demystify it. Strangely enough most people that do not live in the UK still don't recognize certain foods that are being suggested in the books and I have heard chatter about parties where they download recepies from the world wide web and try to make these mouthwatering meals and sometimes even re-enact some of the Harry Potter events around these meals.
As I brought up earlier, the platform 9 and 3/4 is no longer where it used to be, but since the books and films around Harry Potter has had such an extremely large influence on the so called actual life, the city resolved to keep that part of the platform accessible and you may still be able to see the pillar where they access into the enchanting world where witchcraft, dark magic and general life is sparkling with magic. It is highly recommended that you do take a journey to that place if you like Harry Potter and who knows, you may even gain incentive to crate the next magical and epic saga that will bewitch the world for more than a decade.
While it is tragic that Harry Potter is coming to an end and that there will be nothing more in that world coming from the author, or that is at least what she has told the world for now. I am more curious about what will be the next thing, where will we find our new imaginary stories? Are you the one that will keep us under a spellbinding spell for the next ten years? While I would love to think that I would be the one to bring this next epic adventure in to our lives, I know that I am far too affected by J.K. Rowling, David and Leigh Eddings and J.R.R. Tolkien and may copy too much of them to create something that is new and instead of joining these unique authors, I would just be another one in a long line of copy cats.
Maybe this is why author Nick Horby has chosen London as the headquarters for his new museum encouraging the youth, and future authors of this country to put pen to paper and open their minds to unending posibilities....
